What is an arm lift

An arm lift, or brachioplasty, is designed to improve the appearance of the upper arms by removing excess skin and fat. This procedure tightens and smooths the arms, resulting in a more toned and contoured arm appearance. It is often sought by individuals who have experienced significant weight loss or have sagging skin due to aging. The goal is to achieve a more youthful and proportionate arm contour.

Is an arm lift for me?

An arm lift might be suitable for you if you have sagging or excess skin on your upper arms that has not improved with diet and exercise. Ideal candidates are in good overall health, at a stable weight, and have realistic expectations about the outcomes. This procedure is often beneficial for individuals who have experienced significant weight loss or aging, which can lead to loose, sagging skin.

During the procedure

During an arm lift, anesthesia is administered for comfort, and liposuction of the arms is performed initially. An incision is made along the inner or back of the arm, and can extend from the elbow to the lateral chest. Excess skin and fat are removed. The remaining skin is then repositioned and closed with sutures, and dressings are applied.

After an arm lift

  • Rest and Elevation: Keep your arms elevated to reduce swelling.

  • Compression Garments: Wear compression garments for 6 to 8 weeks to support healing and reduce swelling.

  • Wound Care: Keep incision sites clean and dry

  • Avoid Strenuous Activity: Refrain from heavy lifting and vigorous exercise for 6 weeks

  • Medication: Take prescribed pain relievers and antibiotics as directed

  • Sutures: Usually minimal and removed at 7 days
