What is a rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty, commonly known as a nose job, is a cosmetic surgical procedure designed to change the shape, size, or proportions of the nose. It can be performed for aesthetic reasons to enhance facial harmony or for functional purposes to correct breathing issues caused by structural abnormalities. The surgery involves reshaping the bone, cartilage, and sometimes soft tissue of the nose. The goal is to achieve a natural-looking result that meets the patient's aesthetic desires or improves nasal function.

Is a rhinoplasty for me?

Rhinoplasty might be suitable for you if you are unhappy with the shape, size, or proportion of your nose and desire to improve facial harmony. It is also beneficial for those experiencing breathing difficulties due to structural issues.

If you have any of these symptoms, this operation is indeed for you.

During the procedure

During rhinoplasty, anesthesia is administered for patient comfort. Incisions are made either inside the nostrils (closed rhinoplasty) or across the columella, the tissue between the nostrils (open rhinoplasty). The underlying bone and cartilage are then reshaped to achieve the desired structure. If necessary, additional cartilage grafts may be used to enhance the shape. Once the modifications are complete, the skin and tissue are redraped over the new nasal framework, and the incisions are closed.

After rhinoplasty

  • Rest and Elevation: Keep your head elevated to reduce swelling.

  • Cold Compresses: Use ice packs for the first 48 hours.

  • Antibiotic cream to apply to incisions for 7 days

  • Nasal decongestant spray for 7 days

  • Avoid Straining: Aggressive rubbing, blowing of the nose is discouraged

  • Cleanliness: Keep the incision area clean and dry.

  • No Heavy Lifting: Avoid strenuous activities for two weeks.

  • Sutures: Remove after 7 days if open rhinoplasty
