What is a breast lift

A breast lift, or mastopexy, is designed to raise and firm the breasts by remodelling the gland, removing excess skin and tightening the surrounding tissue. This results in a more youthful and elevated breast contour. The procedure addresses sagging and uneven breasts, reshapes the breast profile, and can reposition the nipple and areola to a higher, more aesthetically pleasing position. It does not significantly change the size of the breasts but can be combined with augmentation (with implant or fat transfer).

Is a breast lift for me?

A breast lift might be suitable for you if you are looking to correct sagging or uneven breasts and achieve a more youthful, elevated contour. This procedure is ideal if your nipples point downward or fall below the breast crease, or if you have stretched skin and enlarged areolas. After pregnancy, this is a common procedure.

If you have any of these symptoms, this operation is indeed for you.

During the procedure

During a breast lift, incisions are made based on the chosen technique, usually around the areola, extending downward, and sometimes along the breast crease. Excess skin is removed, and the breast tissue is lifted and reshaped to improve contour and firmness. The nipple and areola are repositioned to a higher, more youthful location. If necessary, the areola size is reduced. Finally, the incisions are closed with sutures.

After breast lift

  • Rest and Elevation: Rest and keep your upper body elevated to reduce swelling.

  • Medication: Take prescribed pain relievers and antibiotics as directed.

  • Wound Care: Keep the incision sites clean and dry.

  • Avoid Strenuous Activities: Refrain from heavy lifting and vigorous exercise for 4 to 6 weeks.

  • Supportive Garments: Wear a supportive bra for 4 to 6 weeks to help with healing and position of the breasts.

  • Sutures: Usually internal and absorbable
